This 20-hour course consists of four hours of online work along with 16 hours of hands-on instruction and assessment activities. This is a basic, foundational course in theory, terminology, and palpatory skills needed to understand and perform osteopathic manipulation in a clinical setting.

This course is planned as the first course in a pathway toward earning a microcredential in Osteopathic Manipulation. Learners who complete three or more courses within the series will receive the Osteopathic Manipulation “Foundations” credential (pending final approval of the microcredential from HSC). Recipients of this microcredential will have a digital badge noting their completion of didactic sessions, hands-on practice with expert guidance and feedback, and cognitive and psychomotor assessments demonstrating these skills. Each course will be about 20 hours in length and require a combination of online modules, in-person hands-on practice sessions, and formal assessment.

This microcredential in Osteopathic Manipulation teaches learners the basic principles and skills of Osteopathic diagnosis and treatment and provides formal assessment of minimum competency in these skills. This microcredential will be run by the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, through the Department of Family and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.

This pathway is most appropriate for those with little or no current skill in osteopathic manipulation and is open to MDs, DOs, PTs, PAs, or students in those programs.

Learning Outcomes and Objectives:

1. Define the history, philosophy, terminology, and treatment modules of osteopathic medicine.
2. Perform foundational clinical skills of osteopathic manipulative treatment.
3. Implement appropriate documentation, billing, coding and supervision of OMT.

Requirements

Status as a practicing D.O., M.D., physical therapist, or physician assistant - or enrollment as a student in any of these programs - is a prerequisite for participation in the course.

The Foundations of Osteopathic Manipulation Workshop will be held at the UNT Health Science Center campus in Fort Worth, Texas on:

• Saturday December 2, 2023 8 am to 5 pm CST
• Sunday December 3, 2023 8 am to 5 pm CST

Attendance on both Saturday and Sunday is required.
