The ability to innovate, to think creatively and bring ideas to life is an increasingly crucial skill in our fast-paced world. HSC’s Cultivating an Innovative Mindset in Healthcare Micro-Credential will strengthen your skills to navigate and lead in the rapidly evolving healthcare and life science fields. This micro-credential fosters innovation, enhances business acumen, and equips you to become a change agent and innovate for a healthier community. You will develop and learn:

  • Skills - Enhance the necessary skills that will help you identify problems and empower you to innovate to solve real world problems.
  • Mindset - Discover how to develop a growth mindset that will help you approach the world with a creative, resourceful, and adaptive mindset. 
  • Process - Learn the step-by-step approach to innovating that you can use to solve challenges.
  • Action - Apply the innovation skills you’ve cultivated with an experiential innovation project where you will get to innovate, solve problems, and have a positive impact. 
 
This course is ideal for current HCS students, alumni, and healthcare and life science professionals. The course is divided into six modules: 
 
  1. Power to Choose & the Innovative Mindset
  2. Introduction to Design Thinking
  3. Observe, Understand and Develop Empathy to Identify Opportunities
  4. Turning Opportunities into Action – Ideation
  5. Pursuit of Knowledge
  6. Experimentation – Bringing Ideas to Life

Learning Objectives

By enrolling in this course, you will:

  • Recognize problems as opportunities, react with an internal locus of control, and adopt a growth mindset.  
  • Recognize the impact of their actions and decisions.  
  • Creatively solve problems and implement innovative solutions.  
  • Identify ways to transform challenges into opportunities and utilize available resources effectively to achieve goals.  
  • Implement the use of concrete actions to meet their goals.  
  • Explore various learning methods and apply new knowledge to solve real-world problems, fostering lifelong learning habits that extend beyond academic environments.

Prior to embarking on her journey in education, Lourdes spent over 25 years providing strategic guidance in the field of human resources, leadership, professional and organizational development to organizations large and small throughout the US.  She started her own consulting practice 15 years ago after having worked for companies such as: Mars, Inc; Pioneer Electronics and Leggett & Plat as well as being part of the teams that successfully launched two startup companies, Buy.com and Elevate. 

She received her MBA from Cal Poly University in California, and her undergraduate degree is in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Business Administration from Whittier College.
